First notes regarding twinning our school for 2012 - 2013

Starting with the British Council programme called International School Awards and focusing on individual schools to collaborate with...

Also the British Council Schools team "World Class" from that I have started looking at how to start a collaborative broadcast project with my high school media courses and other schools, specifically in India and Australia

letter to anticipated participants...

I have mentioned in the past my wanting to have a collaborative project between schools. For example, a few years ago Narda (my wife) at her school, plus a school I was at, and a third school had a series of ‘live’ performance/teaching sessions using an online meeting service. In that instance we used Apple’s ichat. Another example of synchronous interaction is Narda’s use of Google Chat when she is networking with our son in Australia, a son in Hanoi and a son in Atlanta, Georgia, whilst in China.

Three schools in India have been corresponding with me the past several months. We have been discussing a similar set up between them, China and hopefully TVCS in Adelaide.  The three schools are quite different and wanting to have a project for different grades and subjects. Narda will be the elementary point person for our school in Dalian and one of the schools in China and hopefully a class at TVCS. I will be doing a project with a middle school class I have, ‘Publications’ and with my high school ‘Broadcast Journalism’ class.

Broadcast Journalism is an expansion of what I set up last year as a twice weekly newscast of announcements, student commercials for events and the school store, and a mixture of other things such as a teacher profile, sports, investigative stories from my students and some community items outside our school. It became quite the hit at our school with every class involved at some point and every student in middle school being a part of the broadcast at least a couple of times. I did all this with the use of two cheap video cameras. Teachers would play the broadcast on Tuesday and Friday in the classroom with either their smartboard or an overhead projector. I had two programs, ‘DAISlive’ and the other ‘DAISlive Junior’ for elementary. Narda’s children came up with some great jingles for our introduction for each show.

This next school year I am beginning to put together a media studio.  I am writing a course for broadcasting for high school. Because of our mixed nationality student body I have wanted to take this to a global collaboration and began getting in touch with schools in India. One of the reasons for selecting India instead of the States or South America and Europe was the time zone is doable.

What I would like would be to have segments; perhaps once a week for once a fortnight where three schools would have a discussion/presentation on a topic. It could be anything from life styles, music, environment issues or whatever a group of high schools with their inquisitive minds would come up with.

This is a bit of discussion I would like to have with you and perhaps you could direct me to someone who would like to come on board in the upper school with this and for Narda and the elementary students that would be good.
